The look:

  • Purple haze – the classic smoky eye gets a new twist with colour. Smudgy, relaxed and lived in.

Purple Haze

This beautiful lavender shade was every where during the S/S15 shows. Smoky eyes are timeless and flatter every eye shape – there’s a reason why they’re always popular. This season, it’s all about updating the look with fresh new colours. Blues, purples, pinks and bronzes are going to be the most popular, so don’t be afraid to experiment with something a little out of your comfort zone. This tutorial shows you a night-time look using deep pinks and red-toned purples. Just the thing for bringing out your inner rock star.

Review: Revlon Ultra HD Lipsticks in Rose (830), Hydrangea (825) and Dahlia (890)

How does Revlon describe this product?
“Break free of dull, muted shades and lace your lips in high-definition colour with NEW Revlon Ultra HD™ Lipstick. This advanced new lipstick formulated with Revlon’s wax-free high-definition gel technology allows for true colour clarity in one smooth coat. The secret is in the clear gel base that provides a weightless feel with a smoother, more even application than traditional wax-based lipsticks. Just one coat of the deliciously scented, silky, moisturising formula and lips are instantly enriched in weightless colour.”

Revlon has had a string of hits in their recent lip colour launches. The Colorburst Lacquer, Stain and Matte Balms have been snapped up by beauty lovers all over the world. With a fantastic colour range, a smooth formula and a finish for every taste, it’s unsurprising that they became the go-to brand for affordable, high-street lip products in 2014. The question now is whether or not they can keep their crown.

The Ultra HD Lipsticks are one of the latest offerings from this powerhouse company. They come in at £7.99 each and the UK currently has 14 shades available. The description above isn’t totally unfair. There are plenty of great aspects to these lipsticks but sadly they suffer from some noticeable drawbacks. Read on for details, swatches and grades.

Spring/Summer 2015 make-up trend 1: super-naturals + tutorial

This is the beginning of a new series on Slick. Each season, a few trends are selected and you get a detailed break down of how to get the look for yourself in a wearable way. As fabulous as editorial and runway make-up is, it’s not always day time appropriate or even flattering. Read on for the first tutorial and if you like this post, don’t forget to leave a comment.

The look:

  • Super-naturals – bare faced beauty that enhances without concealing. Young, fresh and radiant.

Super-naturals
This is a look that appears deceptively simple. Most of the models that walked with this on the Spring/Summer runways looked almost completely devoid of make-up. It would be wonderful if we could all look flawless with a slick of lip balm and a coat of mascara but sadly us mere mortals just can’t get away with that. The focus for this is on clear, radiant skin with features that are natural but defined. With any luck, your friends and colleagues will be asking you if you’ve started a new workout routine or started juicing – rather than asking where you got your concealer.
